University of Hawaii at Hilo sophomore Travis Russell was chosen the first Pacific West Conference men’s golfer of the week for events played Feb. 1-6.

Russell tied for 42nd out of 110 players at the 2012 Amer Ari Invitational held Feb. 1-3. The three-day event covered 54 holes on the Par 72 Waikoloa Kings Golf Club in Waikoloa, HI.

Russell posted a three-round, one-over-par 217 and recorded a one-under-par 71 on day two of the tournament. He matched par during the final round.

The event featured 17 Division I programs and two Division II teams with the Vulcans placing 15th overall.

Women: Dayna Bersamin shot an 18-over 160 and finished in a tie for 30th at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Tuesday as the Vuls (644) finished ninth of 18 teams.

Bersamin’s final-round 77 was the best of the tournament for UHH. Erika Morihiro and Kacie Harada finished one stroke behind Bersamin, and they were followed by Kristen Sawada (163) and Nyssa Aoki (164).

Grand Canyon (604) won the team title and the Antelopes’ Ashley Mooney (148) took medalist honors.
